Shakira Kicks Off Global Stadium Tour In Brazil

The time is finally here. After canceling arena dates last fall and upgrading to stadiums, Shakira’s highly anticipated “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” her first trek in seven years, kicked off at Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Feb. 11 with a show full of spectacle, dance numbers and an extensive catalog of hit songs.
The Colombian superstar opened the concert wearing a Versace ensemble and signing the Bizarrap-produced hit “La Fuerte.” The outfit was the first of many for Shakira, who also wore designs from Zuhair Murad, Guarav Gupta and Jawara Alleyne.
Shakira went on to perform songs like “TQG, “Session 53,” Monotonia” and “Te Felicito,” a track from the Grammy-winning album the Live Nation-produced tour is promoting, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry).
The artist gave fans a taste of what to expect from her tour at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 9. Shakira performed on stage at the ceremony for the first time in 18 years and got the crowd moving with her renditions of “Ojos Asi” and Sessions.” She also took home the statuette for Best Latin Pop Album.
One show down and many more to go for Shakira, who will be in São Paulo tomorrow performing at Estádio MorumBIS. The South American leg of her tour includes stops at Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru, and sold-out shows in Chile, Argentina and her native country of Colombia, including two nights in her hometown of Barranquilla, where she will be playing for the first time in 19 years. The singer makes her way to Mexico in March with sold-out shows in Monterrey and Guadalajara. She became the first artist to book seven consecutive nights at Estadio GNP Seguros, a 65,000-cap stadium built for live entertainment and Mexico City’s crown jewel.
After wrapping up the Mexican leg of the tour on March 30, Shakira takes a small break before visiting the U.S. and Canada in the spring. Her first show in the States is on May 13 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, and stops include MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, Fenway Park in Boston, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium and Oracle Park in San Francisco.
