Another stamp on Lula’s passport
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will travel to Mexico on Sunday for bilateral meetings with outgoing President Andrés Manuel “AMLO” López Obrador and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, before attending her inauguration on October 1. Lula will also give the closing remarks at a Mexico-Brazil business forum, which is expected to attract 400 business leaders, 150 of whom are Brazilian.
👉 Why it matters. In 2024, Mexico represented a modest 2.3 percent of Brazil’s total exports, yet it ranked as the country’s seventh-largest trading partner.
- What sets this relationship apart, however, is the nature of the exchange: primarily of manufactured goods. At a time when Brazil’s exports are skewing more heavily toward commodities, Mexico remains a crucial market for Brazil’s industrial sector.
